Character history- Once upon a time, in the land of Auldrant, there was something called the Score. The Score dictated that in order for the world to experience prosperity, many horrible things must happen, including the fall and destruction of an island land named Hod. A plan was put forth – one that the kingdom of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, empire of Malkuth, and state of Daath all agreed one. Hod would be invaded and a fake hyperresonance created so Hod would fall…and it would look like an accident.
But something went wrong.
Or rather, maybe something went right. The current Fon Master, Evenos, heard of the plan and would have nothing of it! The Score was a powerful, wondering thing – it told of prosperity! But if Hod was supposed to fall, then it would fall on its own. They would not resort to pointless slaughter and murder of an entire people – and most likely those on surrounding islands!
So the plan didn’t happen. And life went on as usual. Hod didn’t fall.
Those who knew of this part of the Score began to question it – if Hod didn’t fall when it said it would…then was the Score not always right? Did they need it for peace? Some of Daath began to preach that the Score was not an exact future – but a guideline for people to live their lives. With a new generation fast approaching, the younger citizens of Auldrant began to accept this philosophy…while some still clung to the Score, declaring those who went against it heretics. Several factions arose, including one led by a zealous man named Mohs...
…but that’s not where our story begins. Ours begins in ND 2015 when Vandesdelca Musto Fende and Marybelle Radan Gardios married and had a son: Zacharias Abdiel Gardios-Fende – Zach for short. Young Zach grew up on the island of Hod, trained to become the next successor to the House of Gardios. He looked up to his father, who was once just a lowly servant but married into nobility, and of course his mother. He wanted to be just as kind and benevolent as they were.
He grew especially close to his Aunt Tear, who was only thirteen years older than he was and more like an older sister than an aunt. His Uncle Guy trained him with the sword when his father couldn’t, and he became quite prominent in both his father’s sword style and Guy’s – the Albert style. While training under Van and Tear, he learned the Fonic Hymns as well.
As life went on, he discovered he had much more of an interest in training himself physically rather than mentally – so he started to skip out on some of his lessons to train instead or just wonder around Hod. One day when coming home, he heard some of the older members of the court telling his father how much of a disgrace to the family they thought he was. Horrified that Van would agree, he ran before hearing his answer – and resolved to try harder in his training and his school work. Of course, though he applied himself, swords work still came much easier, and he shirked away from his work once again.
At times, he would be courted by other girls around Hod. The opposite sex made him squirm. He’d often get out of dances by glancing at Tear – she’d know to come other and “cut in” to save him. He was eternally grateful.
“Why don’t you ever dance with anyone, Aunt Tear?” He asked her on more than one occasion. Sue the boy, he was curious.
She’d only laugh and respond that she hadn’t found the right person yet. That was a shame. Aunt Tear was a great lady.
Word came of a split in the Church of Daath – those who sided with Fon Master Ion and those who sided with Grand Maestro Mohs. The Fon Master faction wanted the world to continue on its current path – that is, using the Score as a guideline for life instead of a master plan. The Grand Maestro faction thought the old ways were better – the Score should be fulfilled no matter what. When Zach asked his parents who Hod was going to side with, they merely brushed the question off. “It’s too soon to make a decision, Zacharias,” his mother told him gently.
Zach was a budding teenager…and not very patient. Every day he would ask for any developments regarding the somewhat civil war in Daath – if he was going to be the head of the ruling family of Hod one day, he would have to know everything possible! He even attended audiences with his parents – greeted the children of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear and Malkuth. No matter how boring he found the meetings, he still listened intently to Emperor Peony and King Luke – he weighed their opinions and his father’s.
…And all he came up with was a big headache! He feared the day he’d have to take up the mantle as head of the House of Gardios. He couldn’t think tactically or take politics into account! All he knew was people out could start getting hurt. That was enough, wasn’t it?
When Zach had just turned thirteen, war broke out. The Grand Maestro Faction demanded everyone who wanted to live side with them – for it was written in the Score that all who didn’t would die. The kingdoms were torn apart – no one was in full agreement of what to do or which side to choose. The Grand Maestro Faction started waging war on innocent peoples – cities laid to siege.
And all the while, the House of Gardios stood by. “What’s the use of being in charge if you’re just going to sit and do nothing?!” Zach yelled one day, fed up when the Isle of Feris, a peaceful trading island, was nearly wiped out completely.
“There’s more at stake here than you realize!” Van responded, losing his patience with his child.
Zach stormed off, not wanting to hear another lecture about “world politics.” He tossed a yell over his shoulder, though. “You don’t care about the rest of the world! All you care about is the family name! You wouldn’t do anything to help anyway – not even if everyone was gonna die!”
Ever since Belkend was leveled by the Grand Maestro Faction, Kimlasca-Lanvaldear had joined sides with the Fon Master Faction – and Malkuth was starting to drop hints that they were as well. What was so complicated about it? He spent a night hiding out in the country side, not wanting to go home. He planned on running away – joining the Kimlascan army and fighting along side the soldiers. He had some kind of relative there, anyway.
…He heard the next day that Hod had officially declared war on the Grand Maestro Faction – and a man known as Teodoro Grants had stepped forward with vital information for those involved in the war.
Guilty about what he’d said to his father, he made his way back to his manor…
…only to stumbled down a hill and find himself in a very different world.
Character personality- Zach is an average fourteen year old boy – dealing with hormones, trying to get through his studies…and being prepared for becoming the head of his house. He’s laid back in general, passing through his schooling with average scores and sneaking out of some of lessons to play with the other kids around Hod. He doesn’t want to disappoint his father, however, so he trains his Fonic Artes and sword skills vigorously. He’s usually easy-going, but sometimes he worries that he’ll disgrace his family with his average intelligence and occasional disrespect to his teachers. With the war fast approaching, Zach is getting more and more nervous about what to say with the war under way – and he’s becoming angrier a lot easier as well. As a side note, Zach doesn’t really like conversing with teenage girls. They make him nervous.
Character abilities- Zach is a descendant of Yulia and therefore can use the Fonic Hymns. While in the Digital World, they don’t work quite as well – in fact, they won’t be able to work until he can evolve Kudamon. He’s trained since he was little in the way of the sword and always keeps his with him, though he often trains with his Uncle Guy in the Albert style. He’s more proficient in his father’s style, but has started to blend the two together. He learned all of his Fonic Artes from his father.
